Welcome!
Thank you for checking out this blog!
I am a high school band director in Southeastern Pennsylvania. I have been in my current position for six years. I currently teach two concert bands, two jazz ensembles, oversee our Winterguard/Winter Percussion programs, and director/coordinate all things with our 160 member Marching Band program.
Being a High School Director is a daunting task. No doubt. This is not my first position as a band director. I had the fortune of working elsewhere in the world before here. Although, this position has had the most direct influence upon me for a variety of reasons. I am lucky.
In the five years building to where I am now, I have made too many decisions to count. I have made mistakes but had successes. There is so much information I have that the time felt prudent to begin sharing. My hope is twofold:
1. For others to gain insight into what I have learned
2. For me to have a great reflection piece on the journey I have taken as a high school band director.
Outside of school, I am engaged (a little late bloomer at 35) and will be getting married in 2018! I am excited for the journey on marriage and family and equally apprehensive about how I am going to make that work.
My program is fantastic. I have wonderful students. Without attempting to sound cocky, my program is regarded as one of the best in our area. I have performed at our State Convention with my top concert ensemble. Our marching band consistently places at the top of its class and has had the fortune to be a BOA Regional Finalist multiple times. I am not in the life space of trying to build a program but rather take it to a national level. I am dedicated and passionate about band.
I hope you enjoy my rantings!
